CHERNOBYL! Save the date, May 6 on HBO! Last summer I had a chance to work on the biggest TV series ever filmed in Lithuania. I worked on some episodes as one of the camera operators and was in charge of the BTS movie. Written by Craig Mazin, directed by Johan Renck, cinematography by Jakob Ihre. It was so much fun!

Yesterday I had a lovely evening. There was no empty chair to sit on, the hall was overcrowded. The sound of trains reminded about the journey and new changes. It is really blissful to get such support and positive emotions!
P.S. A huge thanks to Vilkaviskis Cultural Centre for organising this event. Moreover, financial contribution of Vilkaviskis mayor Algirdas Neiberka, Juozas Olekas, and Rotary club. And of course Vilkaviskis citizens!

Those, who suggest getting the loan, don’t know that in Lithuania I could have one, only if I study here. In America, when you are not USA citizen it is very complex, bet yes I am trying to get my visa and will try to get more information on that.

Dreams come true! I am extremely happy that finally I have got into AFI (American Film Institute, Conservatory)!!! One of the best cinematography schools in the world, located in the heart of Los Angeles, Hollywood. It was a long way to get there.I started dreaming about AFI back in 2013 travelling by train in Siberia, when another DOP (Alex) have mentioned it. In 2014 I applied for the first time. However, my documents were never reviewed, because of not sufficient English level and I was always rejected. I have tried different private English teachers, passed once TOEFL exam and 4 times IELTS exam till I got what I need. in 2015 I was passing IELTS two times and got 6.5 point twice, instead of 7.0 which I needed to get through. Then I got tired of trying and did a break which continued for two years and a half keeping me busy with other things. Thanks God 2017 was a year of waking up (especially a project in Tian Shan mountains), and in December I hired a private teacher, buried myself completely into the books and passed IELTS for the 7.0, which allowed me to be reviewed. After submitting the documents I flied to LA for the interview and here I am!
Soon I will be figuring out a financial plan and believe me I will need to use your help! I am here till August so please use me for some work!
Thanks to everybody who supported me all these years and kept believing in my big dreams!

Ryto Allegro Radio show about documentary in Tian Shan mountains, Kyrgyzstan.
The recording starts at 51:30 – 1:21:05
After receiving the offer to film the documentary in Tian Shan mountains in Kyrgyzstan I was in doubt. I only had skiing experience, but never tried climbing. The summit of 4350m seemed a bit scary. The more I thought about it, the more I felt the need to accept this challenge. The preparation for the shoot was intense and I had to learn using mountaineering equipment and prepare my body. I was climbing trees, jogging and running up the stairs with heavy backpack. Preparation included learning about solar panels, weighing film equipment, thinking how to transfer material, trying contact lenses and etc. It was not easy, but worth every effort. It was a great adventure and a source of inspiration. Here are some pics from behind the scenes. A huge thanks for the team.

For the 8th time the Lithuanian Association of Cinematographers held its annual award ceremony to honor the work of cinematographers as well as other members of the Lithuanian film industry and to present awards for the best cinematographers’ works of the year. The ceremony took place in the beautiful church of Saint Catherine in the old town of Vilnius.
This year the winners were chosen by an international jury: film director, recipient of the Lithuanian National Prize for Culture and Arts, and president of the Lithuanian Filmmakers union Gytis Lukšas, film director and cinematographer Kornelijus Matuzevičius who has made over 70 films and has received a LAC lifetime achievement award, film critic Neringa Kažukauskaitė, cinematographer Vilius Mačiulskis and Prague’s FAMU film school alumnus Klaus Fuxjäger who has been working in Hollywood productions as well as independent films and commercials for over two decades.
The “Oak” for the best work of a cinematographer in Lithuanian film went to Saulius Lukoševičius for the documentary Paradise Gowns directed by Albina Griniūtė. The award was presented by the former president of the association Rimvydas Leipus who said the jury decided to give the award because of the film’s “subtle visuals and the cinematographer’s ability to combine artistic as well as technical solutions”.

Ok so this is real. Our film “Paradise Gowns” won Critics’ choice Award and Best Documentary Award in cinematographer’s Vilmos Zsigmond film festival! It’s umbelievable when jury members such as Szabo Gabor (HSC), who worked with Vilmos, Nigel Walters (BSC), who is a former president of Imago, french director Pierre Filmon (jury member at Cannes 2017), editor Miklos Mari (“The Revolt of Job” which was nominated in oscars) and professor Saghy Miklos is shaking your hand and saying good things about your film, so believe me – this is serious and this is important awards to us!

The vast Finnish archipelago consists of thousands of rocky islands. It’s a place where time passes differently, the mind has space to wander and even the smallest everyday things can be a source of endless fascination. The film introduces five islanders who, each in his own way, reveal different sides of the archipelago and of the human spirit.

A journey through North Russia and Siberia where people have to cope with one of the world’s harshest climates, Zima portrays a reality where the boundary between life and death is so thin that it is sometimes almost nonexistent. In these remote places, civilization constantly fights and embraces nature and its timeless rules and rites. People, animals and nature become elements of a millennial existence cycle where physical and mental endurance are as important as chance and where life and death constantly meet each other.
